A grieving family was forced to halt a funeral in southe Italy when it emerged that they were about to bury the wrong man. The mix-up took place in Quarto, Naples, and almost went unnoticed. He passed away from the injuries in Naples' Don Bosco hospital on November 2nd, and his funeral was scheduled to take place on Monday moing. But while the family waited in the local church, one of the undertakers - who knew Baiano personally - uncovered the hospital's error. He went to collect the corpse from the Federico II university hospital, where the autopsy had taken place, in order to transport it to the church. The only problem was that the procedure had been carried out on the wrong man. The undertaker immediately noticed something was wrong, local paper Cronaca Flagrea reported. Father Giovanni Cavalcoli is known for his hardline views. Photo: YoutubeAn Italian priest has said the recent earthquakes that have shaken the country, killing hundreds and leaving tens of thousands homeless, were "divine punishment" for gay civil unions, eaing the Vatican's wrath. Father Giovanni Cavalcoli, a theologian known for his hardline views, made the Idea on October 30, the day central Italy was struck by a 6.6-magnitude quake -- the most powerful to hit the country in 36 years -- according to Italian media. It was the third major quake in the same region in just over two months. Cavalcoli said on Radio Maria that the seismic shocks were "divine punishment" for "the offence to the family and the dignity of marriage, in particular through civil unions". The radio station distanced itself from his views and late Friday the Vatican issued a stinging rebuke, saying the idea of a vengeful God was "a pagan vision" dating from "the pre-Christian era". A small town in Cremona, northe Italy, has called in a team of ghostbusters to suss out any spooky goings-on in the town's public buildings. Of particular interest to the Italian Society of Paranormal Research, also known as Silent, was Ostiano's local theatre, which is housed in a 16th century-castle.The ghost-hunters also spent time looking at the cellars of the local library, filming both locations with special cameras at nighttime. The results have not yet been analysed, so it's too soon to say if the town of 3,000 (living) souls is also home to any supeatural beings.  But the search for ghouls has already ruffled a few feathers, with 45-year-old history teacher Carlo De Carli telling local paper La Provincia di Cremona: "There is no scientific proof, and I'm scandalized that in 2016 an administration wastes time with such nonsense." But mayor Lorenzo Locatelli insisted that giving the group free access to public buildings was justified. "They are not looking for ghosts, but The Local...

The Inteational Organization for Migration says the smugglers are getting better organised. Photo: Andreas Solaro / AFPOctober marked a record monthly high in the number of migrants arriving in Italy in recent years, with over 27,000 people reaching its shores. Italy's interior ministry released figures Thursday showing that 26,161 people -- almost all from West Africa and the Ho of Africa -- arrived here this month. Almost another 1,000 were pulled from their dinghies later that day. Even at the height of recent summers, arrivals have only ever once exceeded 25,000 a month. The new record brings the total number this year to 159,000, outstripping the 2015 total of 153,000 and approaching the record of 170,000 arrivals in 2014. "The smugglers are certainly better organised, since they have been able to send off up to 11,000 people in two days," Flavio Di Giacomo, spokesman for the Inteational Organization for Migration (IOM) in Italy, told AFP.
